VIP’s Take: Why OpenText’s DevOps 26.1 Release Matters to Testing Pros

By Brad Davidowitz

OpenText’s DevOps portfolio 26.1 release brings more choices to testing teams. With the 26.1 release this month, we saw significant updates to the testing portfolio. Our team reviewed the release notes and two enhancements really stood out above the rest: Python support in Functional Testing (formerly UFT) and MCP Server integration in Core Performance Engineering (formerly LoadRunner Cloud).

Python Testing in UFT: Choose Your Language

OpenText has expanded your scripting language options beyond VBScript in UFT. You can now use Python for test script creation. Our team is extremely excited about this enhancement due to Python being actively supported, continuously improved, wide adoption, and its large ecosystem of libraries.

What’s new:

  • Select Python as your programming language when creating new tests
  • Leverage Python’s extensive libraries and simple syntax
  • Maintain the familiar UFT interface while using modern tooling
  • Requires a supported 32-bit Python installation before UFT setup

This new update puts you in control of your testing language and allows you the flexibility of Python’s vast capabilities while still using the UFT platform you know and love.

AI Agents for Performance Testing with MCP Server

You might be asking yourself: what is MCP and what does it do? MCP is Core Performance Engineering’s Model Context Protocol server integration and at a basic level it lets you control your entire performance testing platform through AI assistants like Claude and your preferred AI tools using plain English.

For example, instead of navigating multiple screens or writing API scripts, you can now tell your AI assistant:

  • “Show me the results from tests run by my team this week”
  • “Create a regression test with our most popular DevWeb script and execute it”
  • “Get me a summary report for Run 2384”

The MCP server basically translates your questions or requests in plain English into API operations, executes them, and returns the results you requested. This is a game changer and can handle anything from test creation to execution to reporting. With support for 30+ operations covering project management, test configuration, execution, and results monitoring, you can manage complex testing workflows through conversation.

Why Do These Updates Matter to You?

Both of these updates share a common theme: you have the control and flexibility to work the way you want to.

At VIP, one of our core values is flexibility – ensuring your tools work for you, not against you. These two updates embody that spirit.

Python support acknowledges that modern testers want modern languages. MCP integration recognizes that AI is transforming how we interact with software. Together, they signal OpenText’s commitment to evolving their tools for today’s testing landscape.

Ready to Explore These Updates?

Our team stays on top of the latest AI and testing tool innovations. If you want to learn more about these enhancements and how we’re using them to turbocharge testing workflows for our clients, reach out to us at sales@trustvip.com.

The future of testing is more flexible, more intelligent, and more user-friendly—and the enhancements released in version 26.1 of OpenText’s DevOps solutions are solid step in that direction.
