Our Favorite 5: Fun facts to keep calm, stay productive and edge out your competition

By Ellen Mooneyham

Lunch breaks aren’t exactly the three hour martini lunches we saw on Man Men. Usually, your lunch break consists of running errands, tying up loose ends, and trying to grab a bite as the clock ticks down. Tomorrow take a real break, grab your lunch and catch up some on our 5 favorite stories we found online this week.

1. Don’t eat your lunch over your desk

We’re all guilty of skipping a lunch break now and again. But, did you know spending your break actually eating lunch, playing a board game or taking a walk can help you be more successful? Read about 4 Ways Your Lunch Break Can Make You Happier and More Successful and take that hour. Chess, anyone?

2. Your chair is killing you

We’ve heard it before: sitting is bad. New studies show that taking a ten-minute walk may restore the damage caused by sitting or simply fidgeting your way through the day is enough. NPR sat down with James Levine, inventor of the treadmill desk, to get the real story. Read it here!

And it’s not just in the office where going for a walk could perhaps help. Instead, even when you’re stressed at home, you can simply put on one of your most comfortable men’s t-shirts, plug in your earphones, and go for a short walk down the lane. It might not only provide you with some private time to sort out your priorities, but physically it may also produce some warmth inside your body, which may aid in stress relief.

3. Coloring lowers your stress and anxiety

Going for a walk or using marijuana products (learn more about them here) tend to be the most common methods for reducing stress. These methods have actually proved to be relaxing for many. However, it might not be the case that every time you are in the mood to go for a walk, the climatic conditions will favor your schedule. Similarly, you might feel that you would benefit by using the best delta 8 gummies or similar products online, but that wouldn’t be possible if marijuana is not legal in your state. Moreover, you would require a medical prescription to use for your stress-related symptoms. If you are on the clear for both, you are free to use them and enjoy a relaxing ambiance. However, if it doesn’t, new studies show that coloring may be the key to keeping calm. Coloring in mandala patterns or other complex geometric shapes has helped provide stress relief and help achieve a meditative state. At the next big meeting, it may not be a bad idea to take your colored pencils….just in case!

Optionally, you could also use Himalayan salt lamps to relax at home. You could even ask a family member or your maid (if you live alone) to light up those lamps before you return. As a result, when you Go home, you might feel a little more at ease. There will be no tense atmosphere in which you will be entering. Additionally, the illumination from these lamps might cast a very soothing and comfortable light that could be ideal for allowing the mind to rest.

4. Want to up your competitive edge at work? Be positive!

A Google search can turn up pages and pages of tips and tricks to turn up your competitive edge, but this trick is easier than you think: be positive. This post on the power of positivity in the workplace explains the benefits of an optimistic outlook on your coworkers and boss.

5. You don’t know Disney like this…

Walt Disney was the man to light up a room with laughter, but it takes some real business sense to create an entrepreneurial legacy that inspires the business world today. These 13 facts about Walt Disney will surprise you and maybe inspire you to take another chance on that special project.
